![]() Just so you know, when we assign maps, there needs to be an end date in order for the device to function. It sounds like you've had a frustrating time. Sorry to hear that you have returned your device and are no longer using the MyDrive app. Either buy an older one not reliant on internet or by a Garmin because their lifetime maps are really lifetime (well as long as they supply updates for each model) Overall everything to do with latest TomTom are rubbish. If you subscribe as I did and it says as mine does ‘subscriptions Lifetime’ Just press on the little square box at the top right on the screen when in menu mode you will find your lifetime subscription only lasts for five (5) years from purchase- to me thats not lifetime. I am deleting the app and returning my new Rider 550 and going back to my old none internet connected Rider 2 which is much better and doesn’t cost £500.Īnd for those interested in the TomTom 550 advertising lifetime maps and speed cameras. Thats where this app comes in, on its own works great on the phone but when trying to connect device it fails badly I deleted app and reinstalled but same again I cannot load trips or devised routes the app is real rubbish and will not perform as described. Just lately I heard of the Rider 550 with live lifetime maps and lifetime speed cameras (info is totally reliant on using my phone linked to TomTom MyDrive so I blew £500 on the upgrade. This needs to be resolved ASAP.Īfter having a number of tomtom go sat navs I bought a TomTom Rider 1 and that was great for a number of years then it simply stopped working so I bought a Rider 2 and it has served me well for many years. I hope that I have not made a wrong decision with coming back to TomTom from their main competition. I am very disappointed as the reason I chose the Rider 550 was for this connectivity but this functionality is currently not available. The problems still continue despite the steps taken and the guidance on the TomTom website. I have lost count the number of times I have had to delete the app and re-install MyDrive and re-connect to my Rider 550. Additionally, all my routes have been wiped by the app for some unknown reason! I also cannot import GPX files into the app to replace the files that were wiped and I keep getting an error message when trying to access My Routes. No update so far but I am surprised that the developer has not resolved this problem before the release of iOS 13 this does not appear to be a new issue! Too many ‘sticking plasters’ it would seem instead of starting from scratch. After a lengthy exchange with Support, they acknowledged that they had had lots of problem reports concerning the app and ‘urgent’ work was already underway. However, the latest update appears to have made problems worse with iOS 13 and the traffic update is next to useless as the MyDrive app locks up after a few miles/couple of minutes. The idea of the Tomtom ecosystem sounds great and when it works, the system works well. Locking Up and Inconsistent Connection - Currently Useless Please meet us via this link, so we can ask for more details and guide you further Thanks. Hi Steve, we certainly understand your need. Very disappointed with this app, because it makes a potentially excellent piece of hardware, pretty basic and absolutely not worth the money It looks like these issues have been going for years so I’m not hopeful of any update to fix them. If I’d have known the system relied on this app and had read the reviews for the app before hand I would not have purchased this Sat nav. I have followed the steps to connect my phone to the unit via Bluetooth (which it does easily), but the elusive final step shown on the help video produced by Tom Tom does not happen and the second pairing option to close the loop within the app is not offered, rendering all the potential functionality useless. This relies on using the My Drive app and this is where it all falls down. ![]() Similar to other reviewers however, I chose this device based on the idea of the connectivity between phone and navigation unit to show caller ID, read messages and answer calls. As far as the Tom Tom Rider 550 sat nav itself goes the functionality is great and I don’t have a problem with it as a basic navigation device.
